Hand Vein Treatment, the New Anti-Aging Procedure

I participated In a very interesting discussion about hand vein treatment at the 2015 American College of Phlebology annual meeting. Prominent or unsightly hand veins are an increasingly common problem that patients would like to address. As we age, the normal fat and subcutaneous (under the skin) tissue on the back of the hands tends to recede, allowing the normal veins on the back of the hands to become more prominent.

While we can attend to facial lines and creases with Botox and filler (like Juvederm or Restylane), hands veins often give away a patient's age.

While prominent hand veins do not represent an abnormality, and left untreated they will not cause a health problem, patients often would like to see them vanish.

The treatment of hand veins is easily done, either with sclerotherapy or phlebectomy, depending on the size of these veins. Sclerotherapy can require several treatments, spread over several months, while phlebectomy can usually be done at one time without the need for further treatments.

Either Dr. Rosenberg or Dr. McNeill will be happy to evaluate your hands and discuss the best option to treat them most effectively.
