Leesburg Woman Gets Help for Her Varicose Veins ...with a Second Opinion and the Right Treatment

Recently, a woman came into our Leesburg, Virginia office after having received treatment for her painful leg veins at another area vein center. Her symptoms - leg aching and heaviness - occurred almost daily and were limiting her activities. The evaluation she received there consisted of a limited ultrasound scan of her leg, and she was advised that the only treatment available was sclerotherapy of her large varicose veins.

Dr. Rosenberg, one of our vascular surgeons, examined her and knew immediately that she needed a thorough venous ultrasound exam to reveal the true cause of her leg pain. Back-pressure in her saphenous vein turned out to be the cause of her lower leg varicose veins. This is a common problem—when the one-way valves in the saphenous vein weaken, they no longer resist gravity, and pressure in the veins builds, leading to the symptoms commonly associated with varicose veins.

The best treatment for this condition is the Venefit Procedure (VNUS Closure).  The woman, our new patient, received treatment in our office under local anesthesia and returned to normal activity the same day. Its good to note that the Venefit procedure is covered by most insurance plans and the patient was not hassled with complicated paperwork or exorbitant out-of-pocket costs.

Patients who are uncertain of the best treatment for their individual conditions (or whose symptoms do not resolve after other treatment) should take advantage of the free vein examinations we offer in all of our Maryland, Virginia or West Virginia vein centers. Dr. Garth Rosenberg and Dr. Paul McNeill perform complete exams, taking time to explain in detail the best options for each patient's particular condition and symptoms.
